William Shakespeare

Antony and Cleopatra

“I would say that Antony and Cleopatra is the most erotic play Shakespeare has ever written”, says the translator of the play MARTIN HILSKÝ. “The play contains no explicit erotic scenes at all. Antony and Cleopatra are never alone on stage; they always speak to one another while someone else is present... Still, the erotical in the play is almost palpable”, he comments.

Shakespeare has retold the real story from Antiquity as a celebration of the largeness of life, love, and human and physical naturalness. The dark side of the latter is represented by the will for power and the meanness of political career.

The director Michal Vajdička has created a strong show based on excellent cast of Slovak theatre and film actors. The author of the Slovak translation is Ľubomír Feldek, the Czech parts were translated by Martin Hilský.
