The Tempest

The most important of Shakespeare’s late plays, an evaluation of his own life and creation, is worth seeing among other for the performance of JAN TŘÍSKA. The legendary theatre and film actor, a friend of Václav Havel’s, who, after emigrating to the USA, has co-operated with such directors as Peter Brook, Peter Sellars, Anatolij Efros, Warren Beatty or Miloš Forman. He co-operated with the Shakespeare Festival for the first time in 2002 when he brilliantly performed the King Lear. Now, with The Tempest, he is coming back to the festival, however, this time not as a king but as the slave Caliban- half monster, half child. The main role, the nobleman Prospero, will be performed by MARTIN HUBA, a Slovak actor who was once casted Jan Tříska for King Lear and has thus added to the his impressive comeback.

The beautiful and innocent Miranda, Prospero’s daughter, is played by ZUZANA KAJNAROVÁ (alternated by ANTONIE TALACKOVÁ), the airy spirit Ariel by ADRIAN JASTRABAN. The magical story full of fighting elements as well as human characters is, for the third summer in a row, directed by Jakub Korčák. The brilliant translation was done by Martin Hilský, the Slovak parts were translated by Lubomír Feldek.
