WELCOME TO SUMMER SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL

Summer Shakespeare Festival introducing the open-air productions of William Shakespeare is the biggest and oldest festival of this kind in Europe. Even though most of the productions are in Czech and Slovak, noted plays and magic atmosphere of summer production at time-honoured castles entice theatre-goers from all countries around the world.

This year’s edition of the festival will be held from June 24 to September 4 in Prague, Brno, Ostrava, Olšany and also in Slovakia. And another piece of good news as a bonus: Prague, Ostrava and Brno will host performances in English too!

Premieres of MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR and AS YOU LIKE IT they will bring actors who are masters of Shakespeare theatre as well as beautiful Elizabethan costumes. Another premiere is that of HENRY IV. directed by Lucie Bělohradská, the engrossing story of friendship and politics performed by Jan Dolanský, Ladislav Mrkvička, Zdeňka Žádníková, Martin Preiss, Zuzana Slavíková, Eva Salzmannová and many more. The role of the knight Falstaff is played by an exquisite actor from Ostrava, Norbert Lichý.

The play was translated into Czech by Martin Hilský.

And you will have the chance to see another performance for the very first time in Prague: ROMEO and JULIET in the production of the Ostrava company PaS de Theatre, presenting Jitka Smutná in the role of the Nurse and the talented couple Marek Holý and Tereza Dočkalová acting the Verona lovers.

Moreover, the festival will present reruns of successful performances created in preceding years: THE MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR, MACBETH, THE COMEDY OF ERRORS and ANTHONY AND CLEOPATRA. Slovakia and also Brno will see a premiere of MEASURE FOR MEASURE.
